[There's a shot of Rika walking down the streets of Violet City as she carries an egg. The camera is a bit shaky since the cameraman is a Drifloon currently floating around its trainer. She looks up at the Drifloon.]

... I wonder when he's going to hatch. [Rika looks back down at the egg again, and it starts wiggling. A lot. So strongly that she's barely able to hold it.] Ah! [The Drifloon takes hold of the egg as Rika takes the Gear from it.] Thank you, Guardian!

[Suddenly, a Mime Jr. emerges! It barrels towards Rika and into her arms, almost knocking her backwards. She manages to keep her balance and hugs the baby pokémon. Rika grins and looks excitedly at the screen as the Drifloon floats behind her happily.] He hatched!

[She giggles as her pokémon hugs her tightly.] And they like to hug!

I think he knows he's been born into good hands.

You're right! I'll do the best I can in raising him!

Not yet. I think I'd like to get to know him better first!

Do you have a name for yours?

[ smiling down at her armful ] His name is Pierrot.

That's a nice name. What gave you the idea for it?

Pierrot is a character of pantomime, a sad but trusting clown. This little one is unusually serious, but he was eager to protect me from the start. He was willing to place his trust in me before we even knew each other. Also, following Prima's name, they both have French origins.

You really put a lot of thought into their names.

I think his name suits him very well.

They're invaluable partners, and so I wanted them to have names with meaning. [ she looks a little embarrassed, but grateful for the compliment. ]

I know what you mean! I named my Vulpix after something that's very important to me.

Hope...?

Yes. It was a feeling that I had lost for a very long time.

[ that's not something one usually hears from a little girl, but her eyes soften. ] Rika-chan... you're very strong.

[She looks surprised for a moment... and then she smiles sincerely.] Thank you.

I'm only being honest.

[She smiles again.]

I think you're very strong too, Asuka.

-- Eh?

You are. You're not afraid to fight and I know that you hold firm in what you believe.

... Mm. I've had times where I completely lost hope, too. It's just... someone else showed me that, even when you're at the bottom, you can still do something.

That's what happened to me. My friends showed me that fate can be fought and that it can be defeated. You just have to hope and belive in yourself.

... My friend Keiichi taught me the most though. He showed me time and time again that we have the ability to change things; that they don't have to end up the way that they always do.

Fate's a hard thing to fight against, too... it must have been difficult for all of you, but I'm glad you learned how to keep going.

When you believe you can win it becomes much easier.

[She smiles.] So am I.

... If I'd been half as strong as you are when I was your age... I wonder if anything would have changed.
