[When Rika turns on the Gear, she's standing near the outskirts of Goldenrod with a small, yet satisfied smile on her face.]

After saving my money for a little while, I finally managed to get enough extra to buy this. [She pans the gear down to her hand where a small, shiny pearl rests in her palm. After a few seconds, Rika turns it back to her face.] I think I will make a necklace or bracelet out of it, but I'm not completely sure yet.

[There's a small pause as she carefully places the pearl on top of her bag.] Ah, I also caught a new pokémon yesterday, although he actually followed me until I decided to have him join my team. Let me show you—[and as she's about to pan the Gear down to the ground to show off her Shinx, a Murkrow swoops down and steals the pearl, flying several feet up into the air before Rika can make a move.]

Mii! Give it back! [However, the Murkrow doesn't listen to her pleas as it only flies higher in the air, taunting her. So, Rika does what she can; she starts chasing after it, turning off the Gear.]

((ooc: rika will answer all non-action replies about thirty minutes later after she gets everything sorted!!

also a quick note: i'm leaving for a weekend trip and i'm not bringing my laptop so tags will be slow but i'll still try to get them done on my phone!))

[Blake gives the girl a furrowed-brow look] Has nobody around here ever heard of babysitters?

[Don't you know that every time anybody turns their back on somebody under fifteen for five minutes, something horrible happens? What are all these psychos doing, sending kids out into the streets alone and letting them dye their hair bright blue.]

Hey! Kid! Don't tell me you're out here with all the monsters on your own.

[She's already gone chasing the bird, hopefully not out into traffic.]

[and about twenty minutes later, Rika turns on the video feed looking a little worn out, but smiling]

Mii! No need to worry, sir, I'm fine.

You what?

[Finally, a kid with some manners.]

Any luck catching the bird?

[she tilts her head] Mii? I what?

[upon hearing the question, she nods and smiles, holding up a pokéball]

[Blake gives up that line of questioning. Some kind of verbal tic.] Never mind.

Keep better hold on your jewelry. Hey, where are your parents?

My parents? They're home, in Hinamizawa. [dead, but that's not something she's going to mention right off the bat]

Hennameez- what?

[Hearing a child's voice, Blake's Snubbull climbs up on his shoulder and waves at the screen.]

[This girl's been kidnapped and dropped in the middle of nowhere like the rest of them. Blake's been told that nobody preys on kids around here, but he'll believe that when pigs fly.]

So you are out here alone.

[His tone softens to the register of someone who's trying to talk gently to a kid when they're not real good at talking gently to anybody.] I'm Lieutenant Blake. If anybody gives you trouble, call me and I'll take care of it, okay?

Hinamizawa. It's a small village in Japan.

[She can tell he's trying to be gentle, and it makes her smile as she nods.] I will. I'll try to be as careful as I can as well. If anything happens, I have my team to protect me.

[Eh? That face...] Rika?

[Cue Hope talking before he can think. At least he didn't accidentally turn on the video function, but if she does remember him, the change in his voice must be pretty apparent to her.]

Rika, are-- [... Aw man her Gear turned off 8(]

[and twenty minutes later Rika's finally responding, a little breathless and surprised at the familiar (but really different) voice]

... Hope? Is that you?

Hello. It's good to hear from you again. [even though he sounds a little different from what she remembers, but she's going to save that question for later]

How long have you been back in Johto?

Actually, I've been here since July. And if you're in Goldenrod... You must have been back for at least a month.

... How did I miss that?

July? That's close to the time I went back home.

[there's a pause as she considers whether or not to ask him about the change in voice, and she decides to go for it anyway] Mii... Hope, are you alright? You sound a little different from what I remember.

I'm fine, don't worry. But I need to admit-- I am different from what you remember.

You see, between the time I left Johto and the time I returned, a lot of time has passed for me. Thirteen years, to be exact.

... Thirteen years?

[sorry she's gonna need a few seconds for that to sink in]

Yes. I'm twenty-seven now.

[she smiles even if he can't see her]

... You've really grown up, then.

Ha. You can say that again.

I'm sure a lot has happened since then, too.

Rika? Are you all right?

Tch. Are Murkrows ever not a hassle?

[it's about twenty minutes before she finally returns to her gear. although she looks a little tired, she's smiling]

I'm alright. I managed to get it back. [and catch a Murkrow in the process]

[She giggles, holding up the pok&ecaute;ball.] I did! It didn't take too long either. I suppose he just wanted to play a game.

[Hmm. Raven considers that pearl in the gear screen and squints a little.]

I can make something out of that-

[Then the bird steals it. ...This is not an unnatural thing. Raven can wait.]

What can you make with it? [she smiles, holding it up, proud of the fact that she managed to get it back]

An accessory. A bracelet or pendant or something.

Ah, really? Would you like anything in return?

-what a lovely stone! Will you be able to set it or poke a hole in it without special equipment?

[Okay. Honestly, it was the mention of a Pokemon actually picking a trainer that drew Mami to this call. And she would have edged into that... Had the call not taking such a shocking turn.]

....oh.

[Mami watches a moment, but feeling prying with no way to help, she turns off the call to await a potential reply, offscreen.]

Mii! Don't worry, I got it back. Hopefully I can find a way to set it without having to spend a lot of extra money.

Oh good. I hope you didn't have to chase that bird didn't make you chase it too long.

Do you have any ideas on how you'll make the necklace

[She shakes her head.] Don't worry, it didn't.

[there's a small pause as she considers it] I'll probably find the materials I need first. I'm sure I can ask someone in the department store what I need, and figure out how to make it from there.

That's a good plan. If you find the right person, they'll likely have some creative suggestions, too.

[And she pauses a beat to smile, before tentatively beginning again.] But, that new Pokémon of yours...

[she nods] I hope so.

[Rika tilts her head, knitting her eyebrows together.] What about them?

Is it common for a Pokémon to pick a trainer, without needing to fight first?

Ah, I don't think so, but it does happen. It only happened once when I was here before, and I was here for two years.

I see... And there's nothing special about what you did? You just, found a very friendly Pokémon?

[If there's a method to the madness she certainly would like to know.]

[she shakes her head]

Mii... Not that I'm aware of, at least. I think they're just very friendly, or wanted attention.

-I suppose Pokémon must get lonely and want friends, too.

I didn't know you had interest in those kind of accessories...

I didn't for a long time, but now that I have the opportunity to appreciate things like this I think I should take advantage of it.

R... Really now... Hrm... If I had known about this before, I could have bought you more things like that as gifts when the occasion reared its head.

Ah, it's fine! I really liked the gifts you gave me before.
