[It's late at night, and Rika is sitting on the ground, resting. In the background, there are a few trees and patches of grass. She's currently sitting on the trail itself, her Vulpix right beside her. She looks sad for a moment before she has the camera completely focused on her, and she smiles.]

I'm currently on my way to Violet City. I believe it is only a few more days! [She gives a big smile.] I can't wait to see this city! I think Hope is excited too! [She moves the pokegear to show the Vulpix, who is currently sniffing at something on the ground.]

[When the camera returns to Rika, her demanor has changed slightly and she has a sad smile on her face.] Mii, I've been thinking recently about how everyone has been away from home. So, I was wondering... what was your hometown like? [It's obvious she's feeling homesick, and the only thing she could think of to feel better was to talk to others about their own worlds.]

So you live in a rural town, huh? That...sounds pretty nice, actually. I remember our class went on a field trip to the countryside, once -- it was a huge change from being in the city all my life.

Mii, I bet it was. How large was your class?

Pretty big. Maybe...twenty kids or so?

Mii, that is! There's only about twenty people in my school.

Your entire...wow, that's a really rural village you come from. My elementary school was considered small, and it had about three hundred or so kids.

Mii... those are a lot of kids. In Hinamizawa, we have one school for all the different grade levels.

My area was like that, too, a long time ago. We have three different kinds of schools, and then there's college and university...I almost wish our system was as simple as yours is, Rika. [He laughs a bit.]

Mii, it's nice. However, the teacher ends up teaching mostly the younger students and it's more of a self study.

You must be pretty responsible, then, if you have to teach yourself. [He remember his own younger years, and can't imagine his silly, hyperactive child version self-studying. He chuckles a bit.]

I am quite responsible! I have to be, since I have so many duties to attend to!

Duties? What do you do back at home, Rika?

I am the shrine maiden for the village's shrine. I'm also the head of my family.

A shrine maiden? That DOES sound like a lot of responsibility. My assistent is...something like that, actually. A spirit medium.

The head of your -- w-wow. Isn't that a bit...much?

Really? I guess you could say that I am also some sort of spirit medium, as I am able to speak directly to the village deity.

[It'd been so long since she had first been made head of her family that she hadn't realized just what a responsibility it was for a child.] Not anymore. I'm used to it.

The village deity, huh? [Being a staunch believer in the metaphysical ever since seeing his dead mentor possess his assistent's body, Phoenix doesn't doubt this one bit.] I'm sure you do a great job, Rika.

Thank you. However, people tend to be fearful of her... [She looks sad for a moment, then smiles.] I plan on fixing that, though!

[--wait what]

Er, if you don't mind me asking -- why would they be fearful of the deity of their village? _{Isn't a deity supposed to be a protector, or...something?}

They believe that the deity--Oyashiro--will curse them if they are to leave the village, or even think about leaving.
