[Rika is currently sitting under a tree on the outskirts of Violet City, and she's holding a badge in her hands.] Mii. I am sorry that I did not tell anyone that I would be challenging Falkner today. Satoko, I thought it would be better to show you a more even battle since I was too strong for Falkner and the battle went by quickly... I was not able to fight to my fullest, and I want to show you what my team is really like.

[She's silent as she shifts around, putting the badge down on the ground and picking up her Shinx and setting it in her lap.] ... I have also been thinking about Johto and everyone here lately. We all come from different places, and I've wondered if, given the choice, would you go back home right now? Would you forget all of the memories you've made here?

Or would you prefer to bring all of your loved ones here, and leave your home behind? ... Or maybe you would leave all of your loved ones at home and just stay here? [Rika opens her mouth again as she prepares to say something else when her Shinx licks her on the cheek. Her attention immediately turns to the pokémon and she smiles at it.]

Mii? Would you like something to eat? [Rika cuts off the feed as she reaches into her bag to look for food.]

[She grins.] Thank you very much, Hayate.

[There's a very slight smirk.] ... I may be. Although, I like to think that I am always mature.

*Hayate is just chuckling at that, before walking up and leaning back against the tree she's sitting under.*

That depends on what you consider mature, I guess... But what made you think about home like this? Was it seeing your friend?

[She shakes her head.] I have been thinking about home for a long time now.

--ah, really? To be honest, I try to focus on there here and now, since it's just easier that way...

I wish I could do that. However, I have always looked back on the past and regretted everything that has happened.

Erk... T-that's kind of... I mean, um... If I was constantly thinking of my past and back home, I'd just be depressed and worried all the time...

[She just smiles a little and looks away.] ... Isn't it difficult to not think of the past, though?

Aha... Sometimes, yeah... But I've grown used to keeping myself occupied on such a level that I can focus on the now. When I sleep is the only time it's really difficult.

Do you dream about your past a lot?

--eh? That's... Well, I used to... But the thing I dreamt about all the time was resolved shortly before I arrived here, so... I haven't had a dream of that sort in quite a long time.

... What sort of dream was it?

*He pausing for a moment, looking off into the distance at nothing in particular. Then he just shakes his head and lets out a pathetic sounding laugh*

It was just a dream that served as a reminder to me regarding the biggest mistake I ever made.

[Rika hears the way his laugh sounds and she looks up at him, concerned.] What happened?

--eh? *He's a little surprised she asked, so he's glancing down to her* Well... Like I said, I managed to finally make up for it before I arrived here... But to describe it as simply as possible...

I said something unforgivable to the girl who was the most important person in the world to me at the time.

... I am sorry to hear that. [Rika is quiet for a little while.] What did you say to her?

... do you really want me to repeat it, Rika-san? *Since it's Rika, he would tell her, but... It's still the only part of his past he doesn't like to talk about, which is why he's giving her a melancholy look.*

[It take just one second after she notices how sad he looks before she gets up to give him a tight hug.] If Hayate does not want to repeat it, he does not have to.

*... well he wasn't expecting that, given how startled he looks when she hugs him! Which is quickly making him turn a little red as he stares down at her... before tentatively putting an arm around her in return.* It's fine, Rika-san... Really. I, ah... Even if it's resolved, it's just still difficult to talk about, that's all...

I understand. Everything in Hinamizawa is almost resolved, but it is still difficult to talk about, even though I have grown numb to it. [She hugs him even tighter.] ... It's hard to dicuss it with my friends from Hinamizawa.

*Now he is placing that hand he put around her on her head, smiling warmly down at her as he does.* And I understand that... Regardless of if you're 'numb' to it-- *ruffling her hair ever so lightly.* Something like that can always be hard to talk about, especially with those you're closest to.

Just try not to bottle it up, okay? I've made that mistake before, and it never ends well.

[She looks up at him.] From now on, I will not. However, I did bottle it up for a long time...

When a friend of mine would begin to show symptoms, I would try to help them. ...If they did not want help, I would simply wait to die. I would not tell them what was going on.
